We enjoyed driving the Citroen around France with plenty of pep and great fuel mileage. The staff was very helpful when we picked up our car at the rail station in Perpignon, France. The GPS was a nice bonus. Thank you for asking!
Following booking and payment in full being made prior to my trip to Australia I was charged an additional amount on pickup of the vehicle that was approximately half again of the original amount paid.
Got a great deal on reputable, Hertz rental car and a great car i got.. SUV Volvo. Practically new and very clean. The Hertz people took the paid voucher and processed quickly. The only issue I had was when I got the car, they charged me an extra $10 for... not sure exactly what but I needed to get out of there so I paid and went. Wish it was clear I didn't pay in full when I paid for the voucher. Minor annoyance but would use the service again.
We had booked a basic car, and Auto-Europe provided a solid, cofortable car with good trunk space.
I leased a car through Auto Europe to pick up in Florence, Italy. The entire car rental facility in Florence is primitive - kind of like camping. The cars are in a grassy lot, the rental agencies are housed in trailers with small awnings, the bathroom is something you'd expect at a temporary outdoor music festival, and there is no place to wait for the shuttle bus that would provide protection in case of rain. We arrived at this "facility" via the shuttle bus and presented ourselves to the Auto Europe staff. Two guys. Barely communicative. Unpleasant personalities. They checked their records and said - "Nope, we don't have any record of your rental." I had given them all of the information I had - voucher number, etc. -- and asked them to double check, but no, they didn't have any record of it. Their advice -- "Go down to Herz. Maybe they have your rental." What? Why? No explanation. So I went to the Herz agency --- stood in line again -- and the agent there did have a record of my rental. Now...no one could explain to me why I could book a car through Auto Europe but have to pick it up at Herz. The Herz agent was helpful, to a degree. Never got instructions as to how to get out of the city, nor a map, nor instructions as to how to come back to the facility. But at least I got a car. But the whole experience left me a bit shaken and wondering why was there such a crappy car rental agency at the Florence Italy airport, of all places? And I still don't get Auto Europe and how they could transfer my rental to another agency without notice or explanation. And their two agents -- I'm sure they do NOT know what the words "customer service" might mean.
My advice: Please do never rent a car with Hertz at Dusseldorf Airport. I have rented cars all over the world and I never had a single problem. This is the first time I had a terrible experience. Maybe because I did not use any insurance, as it is provided by my American Express credit card, when I returned the car, they did a millimetric scanning to find scratches, dents or minor damages just to find a reason to charge me. The car I rented had a bad damage on the left side of the bumper, that wasn't caused by me, and I am being charged for a minor scratch on the left side and a "microscopic" dent. In reality, I am being held accountable for a pre-existing damage.
I would use Auto Europe again. Our only problem is timing our arrival to the pick-up site before 1 pm. We had to wait 2 hrs to pick up the car due to the 1pm to 4pm closure of the pick up site
Prices were reasonable
Pickup was 50 meters from our luggage and the car was perfect for the two of us with room for one more. I especially liked the fact that full insurance was automatically included. Drop off, while a bit hard to find on the fourth floor of the parking structure was smooth and efficient. The check-in clerk even urged me to go back out and refuel as we could not find fuel on our way in. In Rome, at least, all the fuel stations were located by the airport exit. But, like I was told, I was back in 5 minutes and saved $75 Euros.
This was our first rental with this company. Everything went off without a hitch, except that the street markings were unclear at the airport when returning the car. There is no sign that says Rental Car Returns, in English or French...so have the folks describe the drop off point to you when you get your car. FYI, It was pouring rain and after leaving our car we had quite a stretch to get to the TGV train station with our luggage...we both got soaked, despite umbrella. So be sure to drop your luggage before returning the car. And if raining, have protection. But, all in all, the car and the process were excellent.
Plane was late and therefore staff was in such a rush, they would not provide me a map or any help for that matter. My phone was not working from the US, it was 1am and with no GPS in the car, I was completely left without any guidance from Nice to St. Jean Cap Ferrat. Honestly, they rushed me out like I was an unwelcome house guest and had no concern that a customer who was a foreigner would have no clue how to get from Nice to St. Jean. Absolutely terrible service.
Easy to use, upgrade, got a great car for the situation at a nice price.
I have used autoeurope 3 times in Italy and i have never had a problem. The last time was 1 week ago while in Italy I had to call and change the drop off destination. We called autoeurope and they gave us instruction on how it is done, it was very easy and they are supper nice and helpful. I will not rent from any other car agency while in europe. Autoeurope is the best!!!!!
Our travels in Europe came off without a hitch. The car was ready at the prearranged time and place. The drop off was easy with no surprises. I recommend Auto Europe to anyone renting a car on the continent.
We picked up a B180 automatic at a downtown Hertz office in Barcellona. Left early on a Sunday so no problems with traffic. Returned to Barcelona Airport. The price was much lower because we picked up in the city and not the airport.
Car was fine with plenty of room for luggage. The back seats folded down in the level of the trunk. Fun to drive, a great ride for about $400 for 11 days.
See above for a succinct characterization.
I downsized (voluntarily) but no price discount given. Also, on return added road tax had to be paid. Small print said it was not included but nickel and dime'ing is irritating.
On 4/17 2013 I had a pre-paid reservation for 28 days for a Fiat Punto or similar at Linate Airp. Upon my arrival at Auto Europe they tried to give me a Fiat Panda. Then I was told that actually there were NO cars left! They agreed to let me have a Giulietta for a day so that I could go home. The next day I returned the car at 10am. I wasted a half day and paid 12 Euros in tolls and Auto Europe had the gall to charge me for the gas used in the Giulietta. In the end, when I returned the Punto, after being told that in order to have the fee for the gas waived I would have to contact the off. in Rome and after some wrangling The fee was waived...I hope. I'll carefully check my Visa bill.
Easy to deal with. We did deal with Hertz thru Auto Europe and the car was ready when we got to Rome. However, it was not the car we asked for -much too big for Italian mountain roads and had many dents and was missing a hubcap. Smaller cars are a must!
The type of car I ordered was not available, so I received a so-called "upgrade". When received, the car was dirty inside and out, it had no power and was a real pain to drive in hilly and mountainous country.
Price was good but I was very put off by a 50 euro "airport pickup fee," which should be made VERY Clear when one is purchasing the rental not afterwards.
Since AutoEurope is just a brokerage, the actual rental was through Europcar, who is also terrible.
I was given the option of 500 euros for insurance (which is a preposterous price for a 6 day rental) or a 3000 euro hold on my car, which is insane.
In the end things worked out although I paid $70 more than what I was quoted.
I will not be using AutoEurope again as I will stick with companies like Hertz and Thrifty who I've had luck with.
I told your representative that I needed to upgrade to a car that would comfortably seat 5 people and their luggage. She said she had the perfect car and I paid the additional fee. The car was small and uncomfortable. She also said the car had a small dent in the right/ rear fender and she documented the dent. I was given a hassle when I turned the car in at Avis because of this dent. I therefore will not give you any more of my business.
First of all, I'm not sure I will be reviewing Auto Europe here because they are a middle man. Most likely the cause of my bad experience is Avis, but since I made booking with Auto Europe, they get the review.
We booked BMW 1 series with Automatic transmission and when we arrived to pick up the car at Barcelona Avis representative told us that they don't have the car and we get Peugeot 308 instead. I told him that it is not the same class of a car, but he insisted that for them it's the same. I had no other choice but to take the car they had. I think this is not acceptable way to do business. This called bate and switch. Especially when you are in the foregn country you don't have any alternatives. You have to take the car.
In addition to that, the car was dirty and not even washed after the last customer. Nobody went around the car with us and I hope they will not "find" anything later.
Overall experience was bad.
Last year we used Auto Europe to get the car in Italy and we had Heartz. I got exatly what I booked.
After failing to find an automatic transmission car for a week in SIcily from the major chains, I resorted to an unfamiliar on-line company (not Auto Europe) and succeeded in booking the desired car. But then my wife read reviews of the rental company we wound up with, which indicated , and we promptly canceled that reservation and tried once more, this time with Auto Europe. We got a booking from a reliable company, and our rental experience was just fine. I would have given them 5 stars except the price was more than I expected to have to pay.
We found AutoEurope when our previous car rental agency wouldn't extend our month long rental by ONE day earlier without increasing our cost by over 33%! It didn't take long to ditch them, so we searched for another Rome rental agency.
We spoke with AutoEurope and within minutes, they offered a rental for the time period we desired, at a fraction of the increase of the other agency. When we arrived in Rome we were assigned a nice upgrade - which made the month long rental much more comfortable.
The agents delivered what the promised and exceeded our expectations with the upgrade. We will definitely book with AutoEurope for our next stay in Italy!
Easy to get car in Rome and easy to drop it off in Venice. It was the first time, I rented from Auto Europe while vacating in Italy. Had a very nice newer car that worked great for the four of us. Someone hit my tail light while parked in a parking garage, Auto Europe was great to work with...with my insurance coverage provided by them, cover all the expenses except for a 50 euro administrative charge. Would rent from them again. Good Experience.
After flying and lay overs of over 24 hours we thought we could just pick up our
pre- paid Hertz rental car and drive to our hotel. NO SUCH LUCK!!!!!!!!!!!! My wife and I had to wait over 4 hours for a car. Hertz over booked and didn't give a shit about the Pre- Paid customers. When a car became available it was very dirty and had less than a 1/8 tank of fuel............... The manager at the Palermo Airport Hertz said that they couldn't fill the car up on Sunday................... We asked twice to have the car cleaned and finally said the hell with it and we just took the car filthy, and with no fuel. We went to the nearest fuel station and spent 70 euro to fill the car up. Also, I latter spent my vacation time washing the filthy car. We will NEVER USE HERTZ AGAIN...... We are owed a refund for the unprofessional lack of respect to the customer service we received, and the cost for the fuel we had to put in the car to get to our hotel If you ever want us to use you to rent a car in Europe you will respond to our complaints...............
Thank you, Louis & Vera Motto.
Wanting 34 days of car hire in the UK, I checked all the usual on-line sources when my usual company wouldn't let me reserve on-line for more than 30 days.
Auto Europe put me in touch with Hertz at a better rate than I'd have gotten elsewhere (even for a shorter hire period). All went smoothly, though my credit card was charged even before I took the car.
I'll check with Auto Europe right away in the future.
The experience on the site is great, and we got a good deal. However once there, when I thought the second driver was included in the price, it wasn't, add the local taxes (not included online) it almost doubled the price. Also, the lady at Hertz told us that the insurances you buy on this site is not the same has they use and we would have to pay up front the cost of whatever happens and deal later with AutoEurope or buy Hertz's insurance. Not clear, but all went well.
I reserved a VW Golf with a guaranteed upgrade. Got to Frankfurt and was given a Ford Kuga with GPS and very low kms. Fantastic services. Will do it again and again as I have for 15 years.
First time renting from Auto Europe. No hassle service and very friendly.
Recommended!!!
They didn't tell us that the deposit is added into your receipt for price paid, so we spent several days thinking they had overcharged us, and spent time trying to find a Europcar location to complain to while we were out on the road. Hopefully they did refund the money (around 200 Euros) afterwards....not sure yet, as we just got back.
I always use Auto Europe when traveling to Italy. They partner with Europcar who always have a fleet of factory fresh cars available. The price is fair and the service is excellent. I highly recommend them .
Renting from Auto Europe was very convenient and cost effective. The website was easy to navigate and the breakdown of the pricing was easy to understand. Often times when I have used an aggregator or broker in the past, I've received less than stellar service from the rental card company, but not this time. I would definitely use Auto Europe again.
My wife and I have rented fro AE several times. My only problem was with our last rental-the lady upgraded our vehicle and told us it had GPS. She was very busy so I did not ask her to show me how it works, as I have one in my car and it is a no brainer.
When I started the car, the words "Tom Tom" appeared on the screen, but none of the dials, buttons, or knobs had any effect on the GPS. These was no documentation in the car that had any information about how it worked.
Thanks You
Richard
We rented a VW Passat and were very impressed and happy with the vehicle. It had enough room for four adults with luggage. The service was very courteous and friendly. We can highly recommend Auto Europe!
I always have been satisfied with Auto Europe.
My only complaint last time was that I got a Larger car from Hertz than I had reserved.
I would recommend this company to friends. We opted to rent the the easy pass for all the tolls and was a big time saver and made traveling the highways much easier.
My wife and I visited Italy about tree weeks in the spring of 2013. We stayed in Fattoria di Radi near Siena and needed a car for sightseeing in Tuscany. Before travel, I found via Internet research and travel books that Auto Europe is THE car rental brokers for Europe. So I used their website to reserve a car. Finding a car is not an automatic process, but Auto Europe intervenes and finds the best deal for you working as your agent. I was looking for an automatic transmission car. Auto Europe found me an Audi, a fantastic car that eased the pain of driving in hilly and medieval town laden (hence very narrow and steep roads) Tuscany. Kudos to you guys at Auto Europe, excellent service!
The car was very inexpensive, almost brand new, and got good gas mileage that was the only good part. The bad was picking up the car was a little different than I'm used to in the USA, they don't go over any of the terms with you or walk the car to make sure there is no damage before leaving, I did this myself so luckily there wasnt. I did have a small ding in the car when I returned it b/c drivers in italy drive like maniacs but I wasnt worried b/c I paid extra for $0 deductible insurance right? Wrong I get home to find a $125 charge on my credit card I was told was an administrative fee for filing the claim, I must be in the wrong line of work if it cost $125 for a few minutes to fill out some paperwork. I'm not sure if all car rentals in italy do this but next time I'm doing more research and renting with a company that really has $0 deductible. Anywhere else I've been $0 literally means $0, I guess not in Italy.
We enjoyed the trip very much---unfortunately, we scratched the front bumper.
I had zero deductible insurance which was recommended for drivers used to driving with left hand drive cars.
We were charged 75 pounds on our credit card . I said--"we have insurance" she said--no matter--deal with autoeur in the US. I called and they said we shouldn't have been charged. Time to get some acts together.
